Correct!  A staff or rod. Exodus 4:2 reads as follows. But this passage gives me pause for thought. What is the difference between the sorts of "magic" that is frequently warned against in the Bible, and this particular incident where Moses is instructed and empowered to engage in what looks very much like magic to me.
